This is what I felt like (and probably looked like)

this morning. I'm blaming hormones on the really

poor mood I was in. Probably a pretty valid excuse

this particular time. One minute I was ready to

blubber into a pile of tears and sniffles. The next

minute I was ready to wage World War III with

my poor husband. I even found myself thinking

that running away sounded like a good option.

Dramatic, but we all have these days, right?

I just hate it's the week of Christmas

and I've got a case of the Grinches.

Flash forward to my lunch break.

I decided it was a good idea to grab lunch

and take a drive. Driving in my car alone

always helps me center a little. Weird?

I'm also a Car Singer. You know...those

crazy people you catch at red lights or

as you casually glance to the car beside you.

So I scanned the radio for a song that I

could really jam to....get some tension out.

A few scans in I landed on "Superstition"

by Stevie Wonder. PERFECT.

I'm sure I looked ridiculous.

Bopping my shoulders and groovin'.

I had it up so loud I'm pretty sure it could

have started one of those spontaneous

singing moments at the stop light

where everyone all of a sudden joins in with

no rehearsal like an episode of Glee.

There's something about that kind of music.

Do you know what I mean?

Playing a song like that with such big sound

and a beat that gets down into your bones.

I think jamming like that in my car is also

some sort of introvert therapy. Out in public

I would NEVER get down and groove like I do

in my car when that sort of music comes on.

It feels good to let it out.

Anyway. Thanks Stevie. You rock.

Hi everyone! I sure hope this Christmas

week is getting off to a great start for you.

We've got so much planned this week...

from finishing shopping, fun traditions,

a rare dinner out with just my sister,

Christmas Eve service at church, then of

course the festivities and memory making

of Christmas morning, day and night!

Our 2 year old is sure to make it extra special.

I want to wish each and every one of you

the Merriest Christmas full of blessings,

warm and long lasting memories, full hearts

and never ending smiles all day long.

I've felt very blessed to have had the chance to

share some fun stuff with you on this blog.

But I've had a real tugging on my heart lately

that something's gotta give. Time and time again,

I feel like God has been telling me to make room...

make time...for more transforming things.

I worry a little too much about posting, projects to share,

finding ideas/tips to pass along, making sure that photo

is edited/cropped just right. It's all a lot of fun and

has been a great hobby. But there's more for me

waiting among the time I've been devoting to this.

Time for making some needed changes in me.

Changes I need, my family needs, and God needs.

Pretty good reasons to obey and let God take the lead.

So, as of the end of the year I'll be signing off, so to speak.

I will still lovingly keep the Good Day Shop going.

Lots of new things coming, hopefully soon in the new year.

Red Velvet Cookie Sandwiches

My MOPS group is meeting tomorrow night

to celebrate Christmas with a cookie swap.

I highjacked my husband's famous cake cookie

recipe and made some festive looking

Red Velvet Cookie Sandwiches.

They turned out awesome and I

can't wait to share with my friends.

I hope you believe me because

my camera battery is dead as a door nail.

Umph!

I wasn't going to blog tonight.

Because I'm not in the most...

let's say "sociable" mood.

See?

No one real reason.

Just...

sour moods of co-workers.

oil light came on in car.

hubby's working tonight.

chores are piling up.

ran out of packaging envelopes.

bit the end of my tongue (twice).

got a paper cut.

woke up with crick in my neck.

got a hole in my sock.

it's supposed to be 17 degrees tonight.

So let's do some bah-humbug rehab:

impromptu hug from sweet co-worker.

car still runs & I can afford more oil.

hubby HAS work.

chores...not a Kingdom issue.

have enough orders to need more envelopes.

have food to munch on when I want.

have band-aids to help wounds heal.

have a warm bed to sleep in.

can afford new socks.

have a safe, warm house.

Give thanks in all circumstances,

Some exciting things have happened in the

last 24 hours. First, I made a big change.

I went darker and got bangs. Yep.

Had not planned on it when I walked

into the salon, but this is what I left with:

It's going to take some serious getting used to.

Emma but find myself with little time to make

Before I get started, can I ask a favor?

Say a little prayer or cross your fingers

or whatever for my pitiful eyes.

I have terrible fall allergies and they seem

to have set up shop in my EYES this year!

They are uber itchy, red and dry.

A New Mantle This Christmas

For each of the past 3 years that we've lived in this

house I've done about the same Christmas decor.
This year I've been inspired to try something
different. I thought I'd start with my mantle.

The glitter trees idea came from Eighteen25.
Same goes for the framed print (FREE download).
For some reason, the red in my print came out
more brown at Sam's Club so I just went with it.

The ice crystally branches were 50% off at the
always wonderful Hobby Lobby. The beautiful
candlesticks were 75% off I think, this summer, too!

The other decor I've had for years.

The photo filter I applied does add to the warm, cozy
feeling -- but I am really pleased with how the mantle
turned out this year. Now my favorite thing is sitting
in front of the fireplace with no other lights on except
the twinkly, winter-wonderland lights on the mantle!

It's Potty Time!

Party / Potty

It's all the same to me!

This face pretty much sums

up the excitement going on in

this house in last few days.

We've been letting her do this at

her own pace. No formal "training"

really. Weird? I know I'm crazy,

but I've not been in any huge hurry.

I have this strange notion that once

she's out of diapers the baby in her

will be truly gone. I'm not ready.

So, we've been letting her take the lead.

Tonight, with me waiting outside the

bathroom with the door closed because

she wants to "do by self, Mama"

I hear her say "I stinky in the potty."

Sure enough. Success. Holy moly.

I was on the phone with my sister at

the time. I think she thought I had just

discovered I'd won the lottery.

Despite my unwillingness to let

her grow up -- this was a great night.

She was so proud.

Next step - BIG GIRL panties.

Am I ready?

GOOD RECIPE: Crock Pot Chicken & Dumplings

Oh boy, have I got a recipe for you.

If you don't go out and make this tomorrow...

well, then, we might not be able to stay friends.

I kid.

But, seriously, please try this. Soon.

It's that good.

Credit goes to my more culinarily

inclined twin sister, Cyndi.

Crock Pot Chicken & Dumplings

3 cans fat free cream of chicken soup

4 cans of water (using soup can)

diced carrots, celery, onions

2 cups shredded chicken

(I used leftover rotisserie chicken)

salt and pepper to taste

small can refrigerator biscuits

Place all ingredients, except biscuits) in your

Crock Pot and stir. Set on high for 6-8 hours.

Stir occasionally; wipe drool from your mouth

as the yummy smell fills your house.

About 30 minutes before you plan to eat,

open biscuits and roll out each one so flattened.

I simply used a drinking glass...worked great.

Slice each biscuit into thin slices. My pizza cutter

worked GREAT for this. Drop/stir into Crock Pot.

Cover and let cook another 30 minutes.

Stir occasionally until biscuits are cooked through.

Enjoy the hugs and kisses from your family

for the most awesome meal they've ever had.

I planned to take a photo of this served up in bowls

but, if we're being honest, I was too excited to eat

it and left my camera in the dust of my quick

retreat to the dinner table. Oh well - next time.

Perfect recipe for these cold evenings!

I also bet this would be PERFECT with

your leftover turkey from Thanksgiving.

Cute & Modern Christmas Party Invitations

If I didn't work full time I think I would

spend my days planning parties.

Alas, I don't get to throw shindigs very often.

So I'm using Christmas as the perfect excuse

to have a group of my favorite gal pals

over for some fun festivities.

My first step in the planning process

gives a nod, of course, to my paper obsession.

THE INVITATIONS!

These were actually super easy.

I put together the 5x7" design in Illustrator,

but you could use Photoshop Elements

or something similar. Printed and trimmed.

Then mounted on a 6x9 flat pink card

(found on major clearance at Swoozie's).

The rest are just fun embellishments.

In case you're interested, here's some tips:

The adorable, cute graphics come from

TracyAnn Digital Art. Yum, yummy!

The fun bakers twine holding the

jingle bell is from AR Designs.

The font I used is Pupcat.

It's one of my current faves.

You can download it here.

Now, here's a question for YOU.

Does it matter, do you think, if my

decorations at the party match the colors

on the invitation? My decor for Christmas

is usually more reds, golds. But this might

be just the excuse I need for a change!

Family Photo Shoot

Each year we venture out to our local arboretum

to get our family photos made. This year it was COLD

but we were all troopers and got some great shots.

Our dear friend Sandy, who takes beautiful photos,

was nice enough to brave the chilly weather with us.

Craft Show Recap

I'm feeling like a new person after a few

days of rest after the craft show at my church

this weekend. Whew! Nice to breathe.

I had a great time!

Traffic was a bit slower than last year,

but sales were pretty good considering.

I was excited to debut a lot of new items.

I'll be posting some in the shop soon.

My best friend from college came from the

mountains to sell her quilted ornaments.

I decided not to cram in lots of shows

this year, and I have to say I'm excited

to be able to have some more time to do some

holiday crafts for my home -- imagine that!

This is, no kidding, the TASTIEST and easiest

recipe ever. I've always been intimidated by

cooking a whole bird, but this cured my fears!

You've gotta try this. It's tangy but not at all too

sticky like BBQ can tend to be. love. love.

Thankful Thursdays

Every Thursday here at It's A Good Day

I'm taking the opportunity to reflect on

things I am thankful for. And you can too!

Since we didn't have any takers for the

linky option last week, I'm going to make

this easy and just let you leave a comment

about what you're thankful for this week.

Easy peasy.

This week, I'm feeling extra grateful for

my husband, Eric. At the end of this month

we'll have been together 12 years...married 8.

It's funny. I think back and realize what BABIES

we were when we got married. Thinking we had

it all figured out. But we've really sort of finished

growing up together (are you really done growing?).

I don't think I've talked about this a lot on here,

but Eric is a professional stage manager in theatre.

He's currently chasing a career goal of working on

Broadway...and he's CLOSE! I'm so proud of him.

But if we're being honest, I have a love/hate

relationship with his career. It's like a third person

in our marriage. It means a lot of time apart.

It's easy for me to get jealous of the short time we

sometimes have together. Challenged to be a single

parent when he's gone. Lonely when Emma's in bed

and it's just me and my crafts and my cat. :)

Last week we learned that some of our dearest

friends are facing some very hard challenges in

their marriage. It's scary and my heart hurts for them.

But I've seen my husband step up and be a great

friend, giving advice and wisdom, but mostly being

a wonderful listener and shoulder to cry on.

I'm proud of him.

I'm also thankful for the way he is 100% present

when he not away working. He loves our daughter

so sweetly. They are a pair, those two!

He helps around the house without complaint.

But one of the things about my husband for which

I am most thankful is the way he's always aware of

me needing a break. I often argue that "I'm fine."

He sees otherwise and makes sure I have a chance

to go to an extra MOPS meeting, out with girlfriends,

get a day at home alone to work on crafts, or schedules

a date night just in the nick of time. He's good at that.

Twelve years together and I don't think I'd know

how to live without him. Now our little family of

three is like Act II in our little family musical.

With Thanksgiving right around

the corner, and Halloween this weekend,

I'm feeling both thankful and nostalgic.

Traditions make me feel that way

more than anything.

One of my fondest memories of

this time of year grown up was watching

"It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown"

with my parents. My sister and I would

grab our pillows and blankets, Mom would

pop popcorn, and we'd all sit and watch

the quirky and fun Shultz gang at it's best.

Tonight I introduced Emma to the same

sweet show. At two years old, we only made

it through about 10 minutes before it was clear

that bedtime was more important to us both,

but for those few minutes she giggled at

Charlie falling flat on his back trying to kick

the football Lucy was holding, saying,

"That boy fall, mama!"

I am so thankful for a childhood full of

wonderful, warm memories. I am thankful

that in a time when sex and lies sell more than

wholesomeness and clean humor, there are still

time we can all find common ground in timeless,

GOOD entertainment to share with our kids.

I am thankful, more than anything, that I've

been blessed, entrusted, with a little life

with whom I can carry on such valued and

cherished - albeit simple - traditions.

"Scrappy" Family Tree

My mom recently celebrated a

milestone birthday and my sister

and I wanted to make something

for her that was better than the

average pair of house slippers.

We decided on a family tree.

I combined different elements from

several ideas I've seen and this is

what we came up with.

I am SO, SO pleased with how this

turned out...and it was honestly very easy.

The entire project too under 2 hours...

from printing photos to clean up!

You can make one too.

Here's a simple step by step.

If you'd like more details or

have questions, just email me.

I used various sized circle punches

for the photos and other filler circles.

Some of the photos took a try or two

to get them the right size to punch out.

Then I free-hand cut the grass/landscape

and tree trunk from scrapbook paper.

Here's one tip. I laid the entire thing out

on the canvas then picked up each piece

and glued it so I didn't loose the overall

layout - since things obviously fit just right.

Here's a close up of the details.

And, in case you were wondering,

my mom l.o.v.e.d this gift.

I think she'll treasure it.

My grandfather even chipped in

and sent me photos of he and my

grandmother while they were dating

and of my great grandparents

(whom I was lucky enough to know!).

To tell you the truth,

I cherish this project too.

I'll be making one for us soon.

I've never been mistaken for Martha.

I am no Pioneer Woman.

But once in a while I get the urge

to try my hand at something domestic.

Tonight, after a gourmet dinner of

grilled cheese sandwiches and Cheetos,

I decided to get creative and make

these *brilliant* brownie bites with

mini Reece's Cups in the middle.

They look pretty tasty, right?

I was so excited.

My Reece's loving hubby was too,

drooling over my shoulder as they cooled.

Fast forward past a few grunts, humpfs

and a bunch of "good griefs" and this is

what I had to serve to my family.

So, while this recipe TASTED fairly decent

(thanks, sweetie, for the encouragement),

it goes into the Log of Failed Recipes....

for majorly bad, sad presentation.

I'm sure there's a chef on Food Network

that tells us we eat with our eyes first.

My eyes are telling me to grab a

handful of Honey Nut Cheerios.

Done.

Tomorrow is another day.

This evening we did one of our annual

fall traditions - visited the local pumpkin

patch and let Emma pick out just the right

pumpkin for our "pawch" ("porch" in Emma-ese).

Isn't my little pumpkin the cutest?

I couldn't resist sharing some of

these pictures. I love fall and pumpkins

and get so excited when I see Emma love it too!

Also, I've gotta share.

I'm in a bit of a panic right now.

I just got done doing something I swore I

would NEVER do. I cut my kid's hair.

I know. I know. How could I?

I survived the infamous bowl haircuts

performed by my mom in the 80's.

You'd think I would have learned.

But, you see, we were desperate.

Emma has taken up hair twirling and

started getting lots of knots - a few of which

I had to cut out after some horrific tug-of-wars.

So tonight we HAD to even things out and

get back to a length we could manage while

trying to un-teach the bad habit. My husband

swears she looks fine, but I'm secretly

freaking out that my little girl looks like

a soft featured little boy. Oh me.

I don't know about you, but I am ashamed

to admit that sometimes I need a

reminder of this simple - but so true fact

about our God. He is GOOD...ALL THE TIME!

It doesn't always feel like it when we have

hardships, challenges, moments of uncertainty.

I don't mean that I blame God for bad days...

but it's hard to remember to praise Him

for being faithful, ever true, present in all

circumstances and at all times.

It's funny how we have been created to praise

Him, yet it doesn't come naturally at times.

I've had a week full of reasons to praise.

Answers to prayer that have had me singing

songs like the one above, hooting and hollering

"Thank you, Jesus!" But when this song came

to mind it make me think about "ALL the times"

I neglect to give Him the credit and praise

for working in my life faithfully and relentlessly

and always, always for GOOD.

Now, that's all fine and dandy,

but I know you'd love to SEE

to come on...munch on the

no-bake chocolate oatmeal

peanut butter cookies your

husband made before he left

to go work out of town...

repress the knowledge of

the pile of laundry upstairs...

chat with your sister on

Facebook about above mentioned

Fall TV shows...stare at the stack

of clothes that need tagging for

next week's consignment sale

on your way back to the kitchen

for another no-bake cookie...

OK. Let's be real.

Maybe it's not a crafting meltdown

but more of a responsibility

meltdown. Rather not go to

the trouble of creating a logo

for that...too much concrete

evidence that the domestic

meter maid could use against me.

Maybe tomorrow I'll get

back my creative juices.

GOOD DAY: New Hair & Goodies

With the start of fall, I've been itching to

get back to my darker hair color. The honey

colored highlights for summer were

great, but it was time to warm things up!

My hair stylist, Ashli, goes to my church

and I just love her. She does such a great

job that it's worth the 25 minute drive

to her salon. What do you think? I love it.

What could make my day better than a

fun new hair style? GOODIES IN THE MAIL,

of course! I was so excited to open the

mailbox and see a package waiting for me

from Mommy Holly. I won a giveaway

for $10 to her shop and look at all the

AMAZING stuff I picked out. I can't

wait to put them all into action.

Since Monday's are my half-day at work,

I've still got almost 2 hours before I have

to pick up Emma. I think a pumpkin spice latte

I've got some random fun stuff

I've been wanting to share with

Eric's folks live on a farm with a

dreamy, long rural driveway.

So he lets Emma sit with him

and "take the wheel" sometimes.

One of my favorite things about

my little june bug is her independence.

My best girlfriend, Jennifer, recently

finished redecorating her master bedroom

in sweet sage green, creamy off-white

and touches of purple here and there.

I with I had a photo of the wooden lattice

headboard her dad made her - you would

love the outdoor garden look it created!

Anyway, I went to visit recently and

just had to bring her something for

her new bedroom retreat.

This canvas piece fit in just right!

I was so pleased with how this 12x12" canvas

turned out that I've been busy making

some up for the shop. They'll be listed

tomorrow so be sure to check back!

Before sweet hubs left to work in Raleigh

for a bit, I asked him to take my fall

decorations down out of the attic.

The hubs and I are about to take a scary step.

We're going to talk money.

I'm terrified (but hopeful).

I think he's just terrified.

But it's a GOOD thing.

Because it's a GOD thing.

I've felt an almost palpable tug

lately about getting our finances in order.

Being more intentional.

Being more responsible.

Being more honest about our limits.

Here's a deep dark secret.

I don't know squat about our finances.

OK, that's dramatic.

But true enough to be really scary.

Really irresponsible.

Really naive.

This tug on my heart led me to ask the hubs

to teach me about our money must-knows.

He's reluctant.

Understandably so.

It's been his territory for 8 years now.

And I'm wanting to come in and change things.

I'm wanting to learn.

I'm wanting to help.

Scary stuff.

This sort of shift has the potential

to break marriages. I know that.

But when God tugs at your heart,

it's for GOOD. It's for BETTER.

I'm trusting on the other side

will be a stronger, closer marriage.

With all that said, how do you budget?

What guidelines do you and your spouse

use to keep things in line?

How do you battle debt?

Chances are, I'm not the only one

who's been here. Who's been nervous.

Who's been naive.

Any advice shared here could help

me and countless other folks

facing the same situation.

Early Morning Retail Therapy

had already departed for the day.

at Cracker Barrel after church on Sundays!

First of all, I don't love my body.

It's been an ongoing battle since childhood.

But I believe deep down that God made

in His image...I'm not messing with that.

Sincerity - you can usually tell even on a blog.

And a sense of humor.

Creativity and good photos help.

4. What percent of your blog is BS just to make

I know this will seem strange to a lot of people,

but I'd like to think I'd forgive. Doesn't mean

divorce wouldn't be part of that equation too,

but depending on the circumstances, you never know.

Forgiveness is a pretty powerful thing -

for both parties.

And if I can't forgive one person,

I don't deserve forgiveness from any person.

Discovering God: A Toddler's Story

We've been saying bed time prayers with Emma

for some time now. I wanted to share a sweet story

with you about our prayer time this week.

Usually it's just she and I because Eric works

most nights, but he's been home some lately.

The other night, as we got ready to pray, he said

"Remember, God listens when we talk to him."

As he said this, he pointed toward the ceiling

indicating God was up in heaven.

Well, clearly, Emma doesn't get the concept of

heaven. Instead, she apparently took this to mean

that God was actually up on the ceiling.

Coincidentally, Eric's shadow was cast above

Emma in the corner of her room.

With her hands folded sweetly as Eric and I

recited "Now I lay me down to sleep..."

I peeked at her and noticed her looking

over her shoulder at Eric's shadow.

We said "Amen." She said "Aaaaaaaameeeen."

Then without missing a beat, she looks back

to Eric's shadow, waves, and whispers,

"Nigh nigh, Gawd."

Be still my heart.

"Truly I say to you, unless you turn and

become like children, you will never enter

the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles

himself like this child is the greatest in

the kingdom of heaven."

"Be Thankful" Canvas Art

I spent the weekend creating a few fall items

and wanted to share one with you today.

"Be Thankful" Canvas Art

I used scrapbook paper, a tag punch, ribbon,

burlap scraps and a few other embellishments...

and a canvas from Michael's clearance section!

I wanted to do a turkey, but not one that looked

too much like a preschool project. Not that those

aren't adorable - just not for this project. *wink*

I LOVE how this turned out.

Monday is going to be a big day for me.

Monday is the day that Hollyhocks, the new

store near here that will carry my products,

is having their grand opening.

They've got some photos up of their progress

on their website and my Good Day Designs

have made their first appearance.

I just have to share.

Because I'm really excited.

I've got lots more for sale, but was so excited to see

my NEW! Lunch Box Notes and Clothespin Magnets

displayed in such a cute way. These are two of the

new items I'm trying out and hope to list soon in my shop.

I'll be paying a visit to the store once they open next week

Leafy Turkey Thanksgiving Card

As I mentioned on Monday, the colors of fall never

cease to amaze me. Here in North Carolina, we're blessed

with such vibrant colors when the leaves begin to change.

I've got a fun Thanksgiving paper craft for those

of you who share my love of autumn leaves.

Using leaves from my backyard last fall,

this little gobbler came right to life!

This card craft doesn't warrant a formal tutorial.

Make your card with whatever paper, message you want.

But I will offer some tips that I found worked best.

Use freshly fallen leaves that are still soft. Dry ones will just crumble.
Live in an area without fallen leaves? Use silk ones from craft store.
A gently application of a glue stick works best on the leaves.
I cut the body of the turkey free hand, but two sizes of circle punches work too, then just layer the two circles to make the body.
Freehand triangle for the beak; tear drop cutout for the "gobble" (?)
I would do these close to mailing time so leaves don't dry out weeks before going through the postal system.
A sheet of tissue over the card before placing in the envelope will help protect the leaves, too.

Simple Halloween Garland

After writing the post earlier about fall, I just had to

get going on something crafty for my favorite season.

I was kind of hitting a big fat crafting wall, so after a

while I finally came up with this fun and simple little

Halloween Garland made from ribbon and paper.

*I think I was trying too hard - the simplest crafts

are oftentimes the funnest to create!

I REALLY love how this turned out.

I didn't take photos of the process because it's

just THAT simple. But here are a few steps if it helps:

Measure a 5ft. piece of ribbon.
Cut our circles of Halloween color papers.
Embellish (i.e. googlie eyes, zig zag scissors, or these).
Punch top of each circle with ribbon punch.
Thread onto ribbon at 6" intervals, leaving 6-8" on each end.
Fold each end of ribbon over and hot glue to make a loop to hang.
Hang for some spooky Halloween fun!

It's August! & Two NEW Winners

I grew up in Orlando. Did you know that?

I had a great childhood but hated the hot weather.

The humidity. The bugs.

I didn't know just how much I hated it until I went

away to college to the mountains of North Carolina

at Mars Hill College.

That first fall in the mountains was life changing.

I honestly was mesmerized and in awe over God's

breathtaking creation. The colors. Oh my the colors.

The tree outside my dorm with its yellow leaves

so bright in the morning light that it almost glowed...

The smell of earthy leaves covering the ground

and chimney smoke filling the air....

That crinkly sound of the wind blowing through

the thinning trees, cool and crisp...

The fall festival in the town square with bales of hay

and home grown pumpkins and apple cider...

The honest to goodness hayride through the woods

listening to wolves howl in the night air.

Yep - that year fall I officially became obsessed with fall.

To this day I can't think about fall without thinking

of my and my best friend Jennifer who still lives up

in those mountains. We share the same love for all

things autumn. Luckily I've got a girl's trip to see Jen

this month, which will surely include chatting about

fall being so close around the corner.

And for some reason, the start of August has since been

the kickoff in my mind of the count down to fall.

I can somehow feel it coming in the air.

I have the urge to buy raffia and spiced candles.

Yesterday I got out my old Country Living magazines -

always a good source for some ideas. More on that later.

So, I'll be featuring lots of fall ideas, crafts, recipes and

more in the coming weeks. Do you have a great idea you'd

This morning I took an exciting drive about 30 minutes

east of Greensboro to deliver my first load of

Good Day Designs to Hollyhocks - the sweet little

store I've been telling you about...and the reason

for my crazy house-turned-sweatshop week of production!

This was my first time seeing the store in person.

It's located on a historic downtown main street in

Mebane, NC. The town is going through a revitalization -

thanks in large part to a Tanger Outlet being opening

this November just off the interstate! Should encourage

lots of traffic to these adorable small businesses!

The inside of the store is painted white, both the walls

and the great, original punched tin ceiling. They'll

be carrying handmade jewelry, candles, photography prints

of local scenery, seasonal gifts and accessories, pottery

and much more. Something for everyone.

Hollyhocks is scheduled to open August 9, and I've

already got a team of undercover shoppers ready to

unassumingly case the joint and tell me how things look...

and buy up lots of Good Day goodies of course -

although that's not a requirement to be on my spy team.

This is a big step for me. So far I've sold on Etsy,

at local craft fairs and to friends and family.

But this feels so official, so professional.

So exciting to see my items in an actual store -

on shelves - for folks to just snatch up!

I've also got another store just west of here wanting

to take a look at my small little line of stationery.

It's all so exciting.

I'll be posting photos of Hollyhocks and my stuff

"in action" once the store has opened. I sure hope

those of you who are local will make the short trip

over to Mebane to check us out. I appreciate your

support and business and friendship!

So, you all know I'm spending this week getting products

ready for the grand opening of a new store near here that

will be selling Good Day Designs. It's starting to hit me

that I'm doing all of this with no husband (he's working out

of town for a bit) and a full time day job. Yawn.

My average bedtime this week has been midnight. Yawn.

Figuring you could all use a good laugh, I thought I'd paint

a picture of last night's crafting/production session.

Since most of what I had to do last night was embellishing

cards/magnets/gift tags and packaging, I decided to set up

camp on the living room floor and watch P.S. I Love You

which was coming on Lifetime. I'd never seen it and thought

it would be good background entertainment.

I was right - it was a great movie.

But by about 10:30 I was growing more weary-eyed

and the movie was getting more emotional.

So, picture this:

Me hot gluing ribbon bows onto clothespin magnets

crying like a baby with big crocodile tears and all.

I just kept right on working through it all...

like some sweatshop elf on auto pilot.

I don't know why I find this so funny this morning.

Maybe it's the residual exhaustion. Just humor me

and leave some comments telling me I'm normal.

In more exciting news for the masses,

I'll have LOTS and LOTS of new items to share with you

soon. I'm even thinking about doing a tutorial or two.

Farmgirl Paints Winner!

Before we get to announce the next Christmas in July

winner, I wanted to take a moment and ask for your

prayers. Yesterday I heard about a family in the Raleigh

area where my sister lives who lost their 5 year old son,

Elijah, in a drowning accident at a pool party. Their 7 year

old son apparently found his brother but was paralyzed

with fear and shock to even tell anyone for several minutes.

It's tragic and scary and painful for all of us to hear about.

The parents names are David and Melissa. They also have

a 1.5 year old. My heart has been breaking for this family.

I can't imagine the loss. The grief. The despair.

Please pray for comfort, healing and peace.

I heard the song "Held" by Natalie Grant yesterday

on the way home and, while it touched me deeply to

think of this family, it is such a beautiful reminder of

how in our darkest times of grief God holds us:

This is what it means to be held, how it feels,

when the sacred is torn from your life

and you survive.

This is what it is to be loved and to know

that the promise was when everything fell

we'd be held.

How awesome is our God.

or Home Depot cut into 4 inch pieces.

Black paint
Mod Podge
Wire edge ribbon
Foam brush
Staple gun
Cute xeroxed pic of your family,

It's also a great way to keep your summer

memories alive come cold and dreary December.

After you or nice lumber man cut your wood,

paint each piece and sides black.

Trim your picture.

The board is actually a bit less than 6 inches wide.

False advertising.

Put a thin even coat of Mod Podge on the board.
Lay your picture on top and smooth out all creases and bubbles.

Cut a 10 inch piece of ribbon.
Admire the cuteness.

Staple the ribbon to the back.
If you want to be fancy, cut a piece of felt the

same size and glue it on to hide the mess.
If you are lazy (like me) just write the year on it and call it good enough.

Hang the cuteness.
How easy was that?
Give one or a few to your in-laws,

your grandparents, the mailman, whoever.

You made eighteen.
No need to be choosy.

Today we begin with a cute project idea for

preparing your kids for the Christmas season

from my good blog buddy Holly from Mommy Holly.

You're gonna LOVE how simple and cute this is!

Last year, my son was in kindergarten and as the room mom, I wanted to make sure the kids had a spectacular holiday party! We decorated holiday cookies, and the kids got to take home some goodies I put together for them: a fabulous craft bag, full of goodies they could use over winter break, and the most adorable holiday tshirts! So I am here today to teach you all how to make a "Rudolph the Reindeer" T-shirt, which is the easiest craft to make, but it's so cute and effective!!

Here's what you'll need!

Supplies:
White Tshirt
Large Round Spongebrush (You can find them at Michael's or JoAnn's!)
Tiny Round Spongebrush (cut half of it off to make an "ear shape!")
Brown Fabric Paint
Brown & Red Puff Paint (that are ok for fabrics as well!)
Small Googly Eyes
FabriTac Glue
Small pieces of aluminum foil

Simply place a small square of aluminum foil inside the shirt where you want the reindeer to be. Then squeeze a little brown paint onto another piece of foil and dip the large spongebrush into it and stamp onto the shirt. Then dip the small round spongebrush (cut into an ear shape) into the paint and sponge the ear shape onto the reindeer's head. Lay out to dry for at least a few hours so that the brown paint can fully set. When it's dry, bust out the puff paint and googly eyes to finish up the details! Glue on the googly eyes with the FabriTac glue, and then be creative- use the brown puff paint to give your reindeer some antlers, and a small dot of red paint for the nose. Let dry at least four hours or until the puff paint is completely set.
And ho, ho, ho!!
Your reindeer is ready for a Christmas night out! :)
