I'm taking a quick minute in my busy week to see if
anyone might have some advice or insight to an
issue we're currently having with our daughter,
Emma. She is almost 18 months old and for the
last 6 months or so she's been battling fairly
regular constipation. It seems to have started
back when she began eating more table food on
a regular basis. It seems to be set off whenever
she has eaten more sweets, pastas, heavy carbs, etc.
Our pediatrician has known about it and suggested
we start her on fruit juices and fiber rich foods.
She drinks milk and water but does not care much
for fruit juices. These diet tips don't always help so
we have also started her on a daily dose of Miralax.
This does seem to do the job if we keep her on it
very regularly. But it alarms me a little bit that if
she goes off of it even one day the constipation is back.
Has anyone else struggled with this with their kids?
I'm starting to wonder if it's a sign of a food allergy...
maybe gluten intolerance? She is showing signs of
being ready to potty train so I'm especially anxious to
get her "fixed" so it doesn't impair our success with
potty training and a fear of "going #2."
Thanks for letting me bend your ear.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated!
Have a wonderful Spring day!
