Diagnosis: A Strong Willed Child

So, we blog what we know, right?
Well, here's what I know for sure...
I have had what is arguably the most challenging
few days being a mom since Emma was born.

I have the sweetest, most loving child
who gives sweet kisses and hugs,
laughs when you sing Itsy Bitsy Spider,
and gets excited to throw things away
in the garbage can. What's not to love?

She is also the strongest willed child
I have ever encountered. ever.

Over the weekend she pushed all my buttons
as if it was her intention to break me.
She was in time out no less than 6 times on Sunday...
clearly deciding the punishment was worth
whatever crime tempted her.

She throws a fit every time I say "no"
suggest we do something else, or,
heaven forbid, I don't understand her.

I'm sure the world is frustrating and
confusing for an 18-month old. But I'm
so overwhelmed and feel beaten down.

Until I can make my way through
James Dobson's "The Strong Willed Child"
I would VERY MUCH appreciate any
advice, stories, suggestions from any of
you who have found yourself in similar situations.

For now...deep breaths!

Any advice?

I'm taking a quick minute in my busy week to see if
anyone might have some advice or insight to an
issue we're currently having with our daughter,
Emma. She is almost 18 months old and for the
last 6 months or so she's been battling fairly
regular constipation. It seems to have started
back when she began eating more table food on
a regular basis. It seems to be set off whenever
she has eaten more sweets, pastas, heavy carbs, etc.

Our pediatrician has known about it and suggested
we start her on fruit juices and fiber rich foods.
She drinks milk and water but does not care much
for fruit juices. These diet tips don't always help so
we have also started her on a daily dose of Miralax.
This does seem to do the job if we keep her on it
very regularly. But it alarms me a little bit that if
she goes off of it even one day the constipation is back.

Has anyone else struggled with this with their kids?
I'm starting to wonder if it's a sign of a food allergy...
maybe gluten intolerance? She is showing signs of
being ready to potty train so I'm especially anxious to
get her "fixed" so it doesn't impair our success with
potty training and a fear of "going #2."

Thanks for letting me bend your ear.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated!
Have a wonderful Spring day!

Hey Moms, Help!

**WARNING: First-Time Mom Post Ahead**

So our pediatrician finally decided Emma is ready for ear tubes. She barely got over this current ear infection with two full doses of two different antibiotics. And it was her 7th infection in 15 months. I'm not terribly freaked out because I know it's so common.

Still, I'd welcome any advice or insight any moms out there would be willing to give. What was your experience like when your babies had to have tubes? What did you wish, if anything, someone had told you? Is it really worth worrying over?

Thanks for helping out!

New Game Plan

In my effort to live more intentionally, I've committed to a house cleaning game plan. Better to do a little at a time instead of getting overwhelmed with the mess, right?!

So, last night's assignment: Kitchen/Dining Room

In one short hour, I was able to scrub the sink, wipe down countertops and backsplash, scrub the stovetop, clean the microwave (desperately needed!), reorganize the snacks into the pantry, sweep and mop the floor, de-clutter the breakfast bar area where we dump everything, and pack lunches for today.

And let me tell you, waking up to such a pretty kitchen this morning sure was relaxin

Today's assignment: Living Room/Office/Foyer.

What makes you feel more in control on a daily basis?

A Little Help, Please?

What?!  You don't receive the Kraft Foods Food & Family magazine?  Well that's just silly.

Click here as fast as you can and sign up for FREE budget-conscience and family-friendly recipes that are sure to please.  Thanks to reader, Liz, for sharing the following recipe.  Try it today and enjoy!

In large skillet, prepare 1 box Kraft Macaroni & Cheese Dinner (per box directions).
Stir in 1 package Oscar Mayer Deli Fresh Oven Roasted Chicken Breast Cuts, 1 can italian-style diced tomatoes, and 1/2 cup chopped green peppers.
Cook on low heat for 5 minutes, or until all is heated through.

I think this meal would be just perfect with a small green salad and applesauce.  Yum!
