CHRISTMAS IN JULY: Joy's Hope Gift Idea
Seriously, 50 cents.
Take that crappy economy!
Here's what you need to make eighteen gifts.
Why eighteen? Why not eighteen?
A six foot long 1x6 pine board from Lowes
Black paint
Mod Podge
Wire edge ribbon
Foam brush
Staple gun
Cute xeroxed pic of your family,
Lay your picture on top and smooth out all creases and bubbles.
Cut a 10 inch piece of ribbon.
Admire the cuteness.
Staple the ribbon to the back.
If you want to be fancy, cut a piece of felt the
If you are lazy (like me) just write the year on it and call it good enough.
Hang the cuteness.
How easy was that?
Give one or a few to your in-laws,
No need to be choosy.
Have fun with these.
Peace out girl scouts!
CHRISTMAS IN JULY: Mommy Holly Kids Craft & Giveaway
White Tshirt
Large Round Spongebrush (You can find them at Michael's or JoAnn's!)
Tiny Round Spongebrush (cut half of it off to make an "ear shape!")
Brown Fabric Paint
Brown & Red Puff Paint (that are ok for fabrics as well!)
Small Googly Eyes
FabriTac Glue
Small pieces of aluminum foil
Simply place a small square of aluminum foil inside the shirt where you want the reindeer to be. Then squeeze a little brown paint onto another piece of foil and dip the large spongebrush into it and stamp onto the shirt. Then dip the small round spongebrush (cut into an ear shape) into the paint and sponge the ear shape onto the reindeer's head. Lay out to dry for at least a few hours so that the brown paint can fully set. When it's dry, bust out the puff paint and googly eyes to finish up the details! Glue on the googly eyes with the FabriTac glue, and then be creative- use the brown puff paint to give your reindeer some antlers, and a small dot of red paint for the nose. Let dry at least four hours or until the puff paint is completely set.
And ho, ho, ho!!
Your reindeer is ready for a Christmas night out! :)
{And PS. your kids will adore it!}
Thank you so much Teresa,
for hosting this fabulous holiday week!!
I am honored to be a part of it! :)
xo!

Hey all! It’s Char from Crap I’ve Made. I’m excited to be a part of Christmas in Julyhere on It’s A Good Day!
I’ve got a gift idea for you: a flat iron travel case. This would be the perfect handmade gift for your everyone from your teenaged niece to your BFF….anyone with a flat iron, really. Before we get started, let’s take a moment in honor of flat irons. Seriously. My halfro (totally not curly on the top) and I salute you!
Supplies:
Fabric
Cotton batting or Insul-Bright (I really wanted to use the Insul-Bright, but I had to order it and it didn’t show up in time. The good news for you is that you have 5 months ‘til Christmas and PLENTY of time to track down your own!)
1.5” of Velcro
Double fold bias tape ~ 50” (I made my own)
Cut 2 of each from fabric and one of each from batting:
6” X 11”
10” X 12”
Sandwich your batting between the same sized pieces of fabric, right sides facing out, like this:
Take the smaller piece and position the soft loopy side of your Velcro so that the center is 6” from the right end. The Velcro will NOT be centered. Make sure it’s up slightly higher than the width of your bias tape.
Stitch in place.
Position the hard pokey side of your Velcro so that it’s centered 6” from the right end as well. This piece of Velcro WILL be centered. Again, make sure that it’s up slightly higher than the width of your bias tape.
Stitch in place.
Sew a piece of bias tape on the right hand side (short end) of your smaller piece.
Hook your Velcro together.
You’re going to sew 1/4” from the left hand side of the top (smaller) piece.
Undo the Velcro and fold the flap to the other side, lining up the edges.
You may want to use a couple of pins to keep it in place.
The next step is rounding the corners. I used a glass and traced the curve…
and then trimmed the corners with scissors.
Sew bias tape around the perimeter.
And you’re ready to put your flat iron inside,
wrap the cord around,
fasten the Velcro,
and go!
Even if you’re not going anywhere, the other stuff in your drawer will be safe from burns and melting.
HUGE thanks to Teresa for having me! Come see me any time at Crap I’ve Made. We’re having a whole week of giveaways starting August 1st to celebrate 1,000,000 hits.
Merry Christmas? LOL!
